Launch Test

The game was made in Unreal Engine 5 using C++ and Blueprints.

My team Jawbyte successfully qualified for the ‘Tranzfuser 2022’ program with our game concept ‘Launch Test’.

Over an 8-week period we developed our concept into a vertical slice that we showcased at EGX 2022, and pitched our idea to a panel of judges in hopes of securing funding.

Unfortunately we didn’t make it past this stage of funding, and my other team members eventually left Jawbyte. I kept working on ‘Launch Test’ for a while, but the scope of the game was too large for a solo developer to do while maintaining another fulltime game role. I decided to put it on hiatus for the time being.

Though Launch Test was never completed I think ‘the failure’ taught me a lot about team management, and game pitching.

The game was also received overwhelmingly well by everyone who came up to play it and was listed as a top 10 indie game to watch by ‘Finger Guns’.

Being a small team meant I had to wear many hats, such as tech-artist, sound designer, and UI/UX designer, this was in addition to my role as engineer, designer and team-lead. Having so much on my plate helped mature me into a well rounded developer with insights into all aspects of the game development pipeline. Which has made me a more effective cross- discipline communicator and organiser.
